ZIP Code Targeting

ZIP code targeting is the practice of defining a geographic audience or service area using U.S. postal ZIP code boundaries, subject to the tools and data available.

ZIP code targeting helps a local company think about geography at a more granular level than a city name. A campaign or CRM may group demand by ZIP code, while an operations team uses postal zones to organize scheduling, travel and service eligibility. The exact geographic meaning depends on the system: postal ZIP codes support mail delivery and are not perfect neighborhood, population or service-area boundaries.

Paid advertising platforms may allow postal-code location criteria, but the available targeting options, precision and restrictions vary. A ZIP code should not be treated as a guarantee that every ad impression or lead originated strictly within its boundary. Before allocating spend, compare actual booked-job addresses, travel time, crew capacity and profit per area. Keep fair-housing or other sector-specific targeting restrictions in mind where applicable.

This differs from a website's generic location pages. Publishing a separate near-identical page for each ZIP code does not create meaningful service differentiation. Use local data and customer usefulness rather than mass-producing doorway-style content.
