WordPress Multisite
WordPress Multisite is a built-in feature for managing a network of distinct websites from one WordPress installation.
WordPress Multisite turns a single WordPress installation into a managed network of sites. Sites can use subdirectories, subdomains, or mapped domains, while sharing the underlying WordPress software and selected themes or plugins. Each site keeps its own content and many configuration settings; network administrators control functions that individual site administrators cannot manage.
A company with separate regional brands might use Multisite to standardize technical updates while letting each region publish local pages. The arrangement does not automatically share every post or synchronize all marketing content. It also expands the effect of some operational mistakes: a problematic plugin update, network-wide outage, or permission error can affect multiple sites. Hosting capacity, backups, security roles, and site lifecycle processes should be designed for the network rather than a single brochure site.
Multisite is not the same as running several independent WordPress installations, and it is not mandatory for a multilingual website or a business with multiple locations. Moving an existing live site into a network requires planning and a tested backup. Choose it when centralized administration meaningfully outweighs the extra complexity.
