WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg)
The WordPress Block Editor is a modular editing interface for composing posts and pages from individual content blocks.
The WordPress Block Editor, commonly associated with the Gutenberg project, lets editors assemble a page from discrete blocks such as paragraphs, headings, images, galleries, columns, buttons, and embeds. Each block has controls appropriate to its content, making it possible to change layout without manually writing HTML for every section. Blocks can also be extended by themes and plugins.
The editor is not identical to a separate drag-and-drop page builder, and individual WordPress installations may use different themes, plugin blocks, or legacy editing workflows. A block pattern combines blocks into a reusable layout, while synced patterns can be maintained in multiple places. Changes made inside an editable block still need a preview on real screen sizes.
For a small business website, the block editor is useful for maintaining service-page sections and articles. Editors should protect heading structure, text alternatives, navigation, and mobile spacing rather than assuming the visual editor automatically guarantees accessibility or performance.
