Welcome Sequence
A welcome sequence is a planned series of messages sent after someone subscribes, registers, or starts a customer relationship.
A welcome sequence introduces a new subscriber or customer to what they signed up for. It often begins with a confirmation or orientation message, followed by practical information, frequently asked questions, and a next action. The sequence can run through email or another appropriate channel, but its purpose is to establish expectations rather than send repeated generic promotions.
Start with the specific trigger: newsletter signup, appointment booking, new customer account, or a completed purchase. Each entry point warrants different content and permission handling. A quote requester might need response times and service-area details; a new newsletter subscriber might need the publication schedule and topic choices. Use a small number of purposeful messages and stop or change the series when the customer books, unsubscribes, or no longer meets the criteria.
A welcome sequence differs from a single welcome email and from broad lead nurturing. The sequence is the ordered onboarding experience; later lead nurturing may respond to much longer periods of consideration. Measure delivery, useful replies, and next-step completion, rather than optimizing every message for clicks. Commercial email must follow the applicable sender identity, consent, and opt-out requirements.
