Webhook

A webhook sends information from one system to another when a defined event occurs.

A webhook sends information from one system to another when a defined event occurs. For example, after a quote form is submitted, a website might notify an approved scheduling or customer-management service. Unlike repeatedly checking for updates, the receiving system is contacted when the triggering event happens. A webhook is one integration method, not a synonym for an API; APIs support many kinds of software requests. Webhook implementations need authentication or signature checks, error handling, and a plan for duplicate deliveries. A message being sent does not prove the receiving system successfully recorded the customer's request.
