Voice of Customer (VoC)
Voice of customer (VoC) is the systematic collection and analysis of customer feedback to understand expectations, frustrations, and experiences.
Voice of customer (VoC) is a way to organize what customers say about their needs and experiences across the customer journey. Sources may include interviews, service-call notes, surveys, support tickets, reviews, and post-visit feedback. The objective is to turn specific patterns in this evidence into improvements in service design, communication, and customer experience.
VoC research should distinguish what people report from how the company interprets those reports. A small number of unusually vocal customers may not represent the broader base; question wording, survey timing, missing responses, and channel differences can introduce bias. Teams should collect relevant feedback ethically, protect personal information, and make room for negative as well as positive experiences.
A practical VoC workflow groups recurring themes, identifies which customer stages they affect, links them to operational evidence, and tests whether a change solves the underlying problem. VoC is broader than a single star rating, and it is not the same as a promotional testimonial collection exercise.
