Video Schema Markup

Video schema markup is structured data—usually VideoObject—that describes a video and its properties to search engines.

VideoObject structured data identifies details such as a video’s name, thumbnail, upload date, description and location. When the markup meets applicable requirements, Google may use it to better understand a watch page and determine eligibility for supported video search features. Additional types can describe livestreams or important video segments.

The markup must reflect a real, accessible video on the page. Publishers should supply accurate required fields, stable video and thumbnail URLs where relevant, and avoid describing hidden or unavailable material. Google’s Rich Results Test can help detect markup problems, but a valid result does not guarantee a particular search appearance.

This topic is narrower than general schema markup. Video markup has its own supported properties and eligibility guidance. It does not upload a video, improve its production quality or guarantee higher rankings; it helps communicate facts about video content the page already provides.
