Topical Authority

Topical authority describes how convincingly a website covers a subject through accurate, useful and interconnected content.

Topical authority is an informal SEO term for a site's apparent depth and credibility on a subject. It is not a published Google score that can be increased simply by adding a fixed number of articles. Search engines evaluate many factors, and high-volume, repetitive pages may be less helpful than a smaller collection that answers real questions well.

A business building subject coverage should identify genuine customer questions, publish distinct explanations, give each page a clear purpose and maintain links that help readers move between related topics. Claims involving law, safety or rapidly changing platforms need appropriate expertise and current sources. Good coverage also involves updating or removing content that no longer serves readers.

For example, a roofing contractor might explain leak diagnosis, repair-versus-replacement decisions, permits and maintenance separately. The pages should differ in intent rather than repeating the same sales pitch with different headlines. Strong subject coverage is an editorial outcome, not a ranking guarantee.
