Subdomain

A subdomain is a name added before a primary domain, such as booking.example.com.

A subdomain is a name added before a primary domain, such as booking.example.com. It can point to a separate application, service, or section while remaining part of the same overall domain naming system. A handyman company might use a subdomain for an appointment portal hosted separately from its main website. A subdirectory, by contrast, uses a path after the domain, such as example.com/booking/. These arrangements have different hosting and maintenance implications; neither format automatically provides a search advantage. Before creating a subdomain, consider who will manage it, whether it needs separate security settings, and how visitors will return to the main site without confusion.
