Social Media Strategy Document
A social media strategy document is a written plan connecting audience, channels, content themes, responsibilities and measurement to business objectives.
A social media strategy document gives teams a reason for publishing before they decide what to post on Tuesday. It defines the audience to reach, the questions that audience needs answered, the channels worth supporting and the business outcome to evaluate. It should also establish a realistic publishing capacity, a brand voice, review responsibilities, accessibility practices and a process for handling messages or comments.
A useful document has decisions, not only inspirational brand adjectives. A local home-services firm might decide to use short educational videos for trust building, a local professional network for hiring and case studies for commercial buyers. It should assign owners to each channel and track qualified inquiries or relevant engagement instead of assuming every like becomes a customer.
The strategy document is broader than a social media content calendar, which schedules individual posts, and may overlap the original Master’s Social Media Content Strategy term. To justify a separate glossary page, focus on the governance deliverable: objectives, channel rationale, resources, approval workflow, policy and review cadence. Revisit the plan when audience behavior or platform capabilities change.
