Skyscraper Technique

The Skyscraper Technique is a content marketing approach that studies successful pages on a topic, creates a more useful resource and then promotes it to relevant audiences.

The process usually starts with researching what competing resources already cover and where their usefulness ends. An improved page might contribute original examples, current instructions, a clearer comparison or information that resolves unanswered reader questions. The goal is not merely to write a longer article or repeat someone else’s research under a new headline. A page should offer a reason for someone to read and cite it.

Promotion is often part of the approach. Teams may contact publishers who have linked to a relevant older resource and explain why the newer material genuinely improves on it. Outreach should be personalized and transparent; mass email, paid links presented as editorial recommendations and fabricated claims about improvements can undermine both trust and search compliance.

This term is a tactic for research, publishing and legitimate promotion, not a Google ranking feature. Page quality, topical relevance and earned links cannot be guaranteed by a formula. If the topic is already adequately served, publishing original data or a focused niche explanation may be more valuable than creating another broad competition-driven page.
