Short-Form Video Strategy
A short-form video strategy is a plan for using concise social videos to meet specific audience and business goals across suitable distribution platforms.
A short-form video strategy begins with audience questions and an outcome, not an arbitrary duration limit. Teams choose subjects, formats, production methods, publishing channels, and measurements that fit how viewers discover and consume short videos. Useful formats include quick demonstrations, FAQs, before-and-after explanations, myth checks, and concise customer stories where permissions exist.
The length that qualifies as short-form depends on the platform and its rules. For example, YouTube supports qualifying Shorts of up to three minutes; defining the entire category as “videos under 60 seconds” is outdated. Instead of copying one edit everywhere, check aspect ratios, captions, music rights, safety, and creative conventions for each destination. Track meaningful watch behavior and next-step actions, but compare metrics only after checking each platform’s definitions.
A strategy also specifies how ideas are sourced, how often content can be produced sustainably, who approves claims and footage, and how improvements are tested. Short-form video is the media format; short-form video strategy is the decision framework that connects that format to audiences, resources, and results.
