Service Scope of Work

A service scope of work describes the tasks, deliverables, conditions, and boundaries of a particular job.

A service scope of work describes the tasks, deliverables, conditions, and boundaries of a particular job. A handyman's scope might name the surfaces being repaired, materials to be supplied, number of visits, and tasks that are excluded. This helps the customer understand what a quote covers before agreeing to the work. It differs from general service terms and conditions, which establish broader business rules, and from service exclusions alone, which list only what is not included. Good scope wording is specific enough to prevent conflicting expectations without burying the customer in unnecessary technical language. A scope may be attached to an estimate or agreement, but the exact legal effect depends on the document and circumstances.
