Search Entity
A search entity is a distinct person, place, organization, product, or concept that a search system can represent and relate to other information.
In search, an entity is a recognizable thing or concept rather than merely a phrase of text. The name of a business, its service category, its physical location, and the people associated with it can each be described as entities. The same words can refer to different entities, while different names can refer to one entity.
Entity-aware search attempts to interpret relationships and context, including which business or topic a query is about. For local businesses, consistent factual descriptions, accurate business details, trustworthy references, and content explaining actual services can reduce ambiguity for visitors. A schema vocabulary can express structured facts on a site, but adding markup does not force a search engine to accept an entity claim or display a particular panel.
A search entity is different from search intent: an entity is what the query refers to; intent is what the person wants to do or learn. A search for a particular plumber may be navigational, while a search for water-heater repair can involve informational or transactional goals.
Avoid inventing entities or affiliations to improve perceived search authority. The strongest pages make identity and relationships clear without promising a ranking benefit.
