Search Autocomplete

Search autocomplete suggests possible queries while someone types into a website search field.

Search autocomplete suggests possible queries while someone types into a website search field. A visitor looking for 'gutter cleaning' might see related site sections before finishing the phrase. Autocomplete differs from search filters, which narrow results after a query or selection. Suggestions should be relevant, easy to dismiss, and operable without a mouse. A suggestion should not silently submit a form or change the user's input unexpectedly. For a small service website with only a handful of pages, a clear navigation menu may be more useful than building autocomplete. The feature earns its place when it helps customers find real information faster.
