Route Density
Route density describes how concentrated a service company's jobs are within a geographic area relative to the travel needed to serve them.
Route density describes how concentrated a service company's jobs are within a geographic area relative to the travel needed to serve them. A landscaping crew with several nearby appointments may spend less time driving between locations than one with the same number of jobs scattered across distant neighborhoods. Density can influence scheduling, service area decisions, staffing, and minimum job charges. It is not just the number of potential customers in a ZIP code, nor is it a measure of search demand. Businesses should examine real routes, job durations, travel constraints, and capacity rather than treating a densely populated neighborhood as automatically profitable.
