Review Widget

A review widget is a website component that displays customer ratings or written reviews, often obtained from a separate review service.

Review widgets can show selected testimonials, an average rating, a scrolling feed or a link to the original review platform. For visitors they may supply social proof near a booking or purchase decision, but credibility depends on the reviews being genuine, relevant and fairly represented. An embedded widget does not establish that every customer experience was positive or that the displayed selection is unbiased.

Before embedding one, check the platform's permission and display terms, whether review content is cached or refreshed, and what happens if a review is edited or removed. Keep the widget fast and accessible. A heavy third-party script can slow the page or fail under tracking restrictions; labels, contrast and keyboard navigation matter as much as the visual star icons.

Do not confuse visitor-facing reviews with search-engine review-star eligibility. Google specifically restricts self-serving review snippets for organizations and local businesses reviewing themselves, even when ratings come from an external widget. Structured data must follow the applicable rules and does not guarantee that stars will appear in results. For service businesses, a well-contextualized, trustworthy customer quote can be more useful than an unexplained five-star badge.
