Review Syndication
Review syndication is the authorized reuse or distribution of customer review content or aggregated ratings across more than one website, service, or marketing channel.
Review syndication can mean different things depending on the platform. A business might display an approved testimonial on its website, a review service might share eligible ratings with partners, or Google might show third-party review information it finds from independent websites. None of those arrangements means a business can copy reviews into its Google Business Profile as if customers submitted them there.
Before reusing a review, establish who owns the content, whether the license or platform rules allow reuse, and whether the quote is presented accurately. A short positive excerpt must not misleadingly omit material context. Reviews featured as advertising can be treated as testimonials, creating different disclosure and accuracy responsibilities than simply hosting a consumer-review page. The FTC's review guidance distinguishes these situations.
Google says Business Profiles can display third-party reviews from selected sources, but businesses cannot choose the originating website. Review markup on a business's own pages also does not automatically generate review stars in organic Search: Google's self-serving review restrictions apply. For local service firms, syndication is primarily a distribution and trust-management issue, not a mechanism for manufacturing independent reputation signals.
