Responsive Search Ads

Responsive Search Ads (RSAs) are Google Ads search advertisements assembled from multiple advertiser-provided headlines and descriptions.

An advertiser can supply several headline and description assets, and Google Ads selects combinations for eligible search auctions. Google’s current help documentation permits up to 15 headlines and four descriptions for an individual RSA, with display combinations varying by query and placement. The platform may show fewer than the maximum number of available assets, so each headline and description must still make sense in combination.

Writing useful RSA assets requires distinct benefits, relevant landing-page claims and a clear call to action. Advertisers can pin some assets to positions when a message must appear, but pinning reduces combination flexibility and some lower positions are not guaranteed to show. Teams should read current Ads policies and review actual performance instead of assuming that more assets always create better outcomes.

A responsive search ad is not responsive web design: the first adjusts ad text assets, while the second adjusts site layout across devices. It is also different from a responsive display ad, which may combine creative elements on display placements. The existence of automated asset combinations is not proof of conversions or improved return on spend.
