Responsive Images

Responsive images let a website provide image files suited to different screen sizes, resolutions, or layout needs. A large landscaping project photo might look sharp on a desktop, but downloading that same oversized file on a small phone may waste data and slow the page. Browsers can select an appropriate source when the site uses tools such as srcset and sizes. Designers may also use different crops when a wide scene would be difficult to understand on mobile. Responsive images address image delivery and presentation; they do not replace responsive page design. Meaningful alternative text is still needed where an image conveys information.
