Proofreading

Proofreading is the final review of written material for surface-level errors before it is published or delivered.

Proofreading is the final review of written material for surface-level errors before it is published or delivered. It focuses on spelling, punctuation, capitalization, formatting inconsistencies, and similar mistakes that remain after larger edits. On a home repair service page, a proofreader might catch a misspelled service name or inconsistent phone number formatting. Proofreading does not replace fact-checking or rewriting a weak argument. Content editing typically addresses structure, clarity, accuracy, and whether the page answers the reader's questions. An editorial workflow should allow time for both activities, preferably after the most significant text changes are settled. A polished page still needs its claims and links checked separately.
