Progressive Profiling
Progressive profiling collects customer or prospect information in stages as a relationship develops, rather than demanding every detail at the first interaction.
Progressive profiling is an information-collection approach that spreads relevant questions across multiple interactions. A first enquiry might need only a name and preferred contact method; a later quotation step may need service details, budget, or scheduling preferences. The aim is to reduce initial friction while still gathering information when it becomes useful.
The approach requires a reliable way to recognize the person or their existing record, and it should not imply that every returning visitor is automatically identified. Forms can show new questions based on prior answers, but rules should be tested carefully for new visitors, shared devices, and incomplete records.
Privacy still matters: collect only data appropriate to the stated purpose, explain the intended use, and honor the applicable consent and retention requirements. Progressive profiling is not a justification for collecting unrelated personal details over time. Evaluate whether staged questions improve both completion rate and the eventual quality of enquiries.
