Positioning Statement Template
A positioning statement template is a structured internal sentence or brief describing a target audience, category, differentiating value, and supporting reason.
A positioning statement template gives a team a repeatable way to articulate how a business should be understood by a chosen audience. A commonly used structure identifies the target customer, the category or need, the primary difference, and the evidence supporting that difference. The completed statement is primarily an internal decision guide; it does not need to appear verbatim as a public slogan.
For a licensed residential electrician, a draft might read: For homeowners who need reliable scheduling, our electrical service provides appointment windows confirmed in advance, supported by documented dispatch procedures. The statement should be checked against actual customer expectations and delivered service, not treated as truth simply because it fills every blank.
A useful template avoids interchangeable claims such as “best quality at great prices.” It makes a defensible choice about whom the company is not primarily targeting and which promise will guide copy, offers, visuals, and customer support. A slogan can express the idea creatively, whereas the positioning statement states the underlying strategic choice more explicitly. This entry concerns the practical template and review process; the broader brand-positioning concept may already cover its strategic foundations. Resolve that overlap before granting a separate glossary URL.
