Pillar Page
A pillar page is a substantial central page that introduces a broad topic and connects readers to focused supporting resources.
A pillar page is the navigational center of a related content collection. It explains a broad subject clearly enough to be useful on its own, while linking to narrower articles where readers can explore individual questions. The page and its supporting articles should follow real user needs, rather than exist solely to create many links.
For an HVAC website, a central guide to choosing a home heating system might cover equipment options, sizing questions, operating considerations, and the estimate process. Focused pages can then discuss heat pumps, maintenance decisions, or particular installation constraints. The central page should help the visitor choose a next step and should not duplicate every paragraph from the supporting pages. Maintenance matters: when equipment guidance changes, both the central overview and related pages may need updates.
Pillar pages are often associated with topic clusters, but Google does not guarantee ranking gains for adopting this label or for achieving a particular internal-link count. A short sales page or an archive listing is not automatically a pillar page. Nor is the content pillar that a marketing team uses to organize recurring editorial themes necessarily a published hub page. This entry focuses on the reader-facing page and its useful link relationships; the pre-existing Content Pillar entry requires a deliberate scope distinction before publication.
