Notification Bar

A notification bar is a compact, prominent message area on a website used to communicate time-sensitive information or offer a relevant next step.

A notification bar is a narrow interface region, often near the top of a page, that draws attention to information such as changed opening hours, delivery disruptions, event registration, or a limited promotion. Unlike a modal dialog, it typically leaves the rest of the page usable. Its purpose is to surface an important message without taking over the entire browsing experience.

A useful notification has a short message, a clear destination if action is needed, and a close control when dismissal makes sense. For critical notices, decide whether the banner should remain visible across pages and how it interacts with screen-reader announcements or keyboard focus. Do not rely on color alone to signal urgency, and avoid motion that makes essential controls hard to use. An announcement about service interruption should be written differently from a promotional discount.

A notification bar is not the same as the email or CRM notification a website sends when a form is submitted. One is visible website messaging; the other is an operational event or alert in the back end.
