Marketing Account Ownership

Marketing account ownership is the arrangement that determines who controls advertising, analytics and social platform accounts.

Marketing account ownership is about retaining practical and contractual control over the accounts a business relies on to reach customers. These can include advertising platforms, analytics properties, business listings, social profiles and their underlying payment or authentication settings. The key question is not only whose name appears on an invoice; it is who can authorize administrators, export data and keep operations running after an agency relationship ends.

A business can reduce transfer risk by establishing a company-controlled administrative identity where supported, documenting owner roles, using multi-factor authentication and granting agencies the minimum access needed for their work. Platform-specific ownership and transfer rules vary, so agreements should state which assets belong to the business and how access will be returned.

A change of marketing provider should trigger an access review, not deletion of the business's historical reports. Maintain an inventory of logins, roles, billing responsibility and recovery methods, and keep a separate process for revoking former vendor permissions.
