Market Saturation

Market saturation describes a situation in which an area or customer segment already has substantial availability of the type of product or service being offered.

Market saturation describes a situation in which an area or customer segment already has substantial availability of the type of product or service being offered. In a neighborhood with many lawn care providers, finding new customers may require clearer differentiation rather than simply creating more advertising. Saturation is not established by counting competitors alone: demand, capacity, prices, service quality, and customer turnover also matter. It differs from market penetration, which describes how widely a business or offering has reached a defined market. Local research can help interpret the conditions, but no universal number identifies a saturated market for every service category.
