Macro-Influencer

A macro-influencer is a creator with a comparatively large social following, commonly categorized between micro-influencers and celebrity-level creators.

Macro-influencer is a marketing segment rather than an official creator qualification shared by every platform. Agencies often use approximate follower brackets, but the thresholds vary by market, network, and research provider. A creator with a large audience can offer wide exposure, yet total followers alone reveal little about relevance, trust, geography, or the audience’s ability to buy a product.

Before agreeing to a partnership, review audience composition, previous sponsored posts, engagement patterns, creative fit, content rights, and what business result will be measured. Request credible analytics, clarify deliverables, and specify how paid amplification or reposting is authorized. A neighborhood service company may benefit more from a smaller local creator than a national personality whose audience is distributed elsewhere.

When an influencer has a material relationship with a brand, relevant disclosure rules apply; the FTC emphasizes clear, hard-to-miss disclosure for endorsements reaching U.S. consumers. Follower size does not excuse poor disclosure or unsupported product claims. This term describes an audience-size category, not a guarantee of influence or a universal numerical threshold.
