Loading Indicator

A loading indicator gives feedback that a website is processing an action or waiting for information.

A loading indicator gives feedback that a website is processing an action or waiting for information. A spinner, progress bar, or brief status message can reassure someone after they submit a request or open a scheduling tool. On a lawn care site, the indicator should not disappear into a blank screen if an appointment lookup takes longer than expected. Whenever possible, provide meaningful progress information and a clear error or completion state. A loading indicator is different from a form confirmation, which tells the visitor an action has actually succeeded. Indicators should also be accessible to people using assistive technology. They improve communication during a wait, but they do not make a slow operation faster.
