JAMstack

JAMstack is a website architecture that emphasizes pre-rendered front ends, decoupled backend services and delivery through globally distributed infrastructure.

A JAMstack site can build its public pages ahead of requests and distribute the resulting HTML and assets through a content delivery network. Its frontend may obtain changing information from APIs, external services or on-demand functions instead of relying on a traditional application server to render every page request. The name originally referred to JavaScript, APIs and Markup, but real implementations vary widely.

For a business website, pre-rendering service and location pages can reduce the amount of work required when someone opens a page. Contact forms, search, bookings and personalization may still call dynamic services. Deployment pipelines must handle content updates, cache purges, API reliability and rollback; a successful build does not guarantee a working newsletter or form endpoint.

JAMstack is an architectural approach rather than a single framework, vendor or guarantee of perfect performance. It overlaps with static site generation but includes the wider decisions around data sources, hosting and dynamic functionality. A site may use some JAMstack techniques without being wholly static, and security still depends on implementation.
