Input Mask
An input mask guides how information is entered into a form field by displaying or applying a particular format.
An input mask guides how information is entered into a form field by displaying or applying a particular format. Phone number, date, and ZIP code fields are common examples. A mask may make a form easier to understand, but rigid formatting can reject valid data, interfere with pasting, or cause difficulties for assistive technologies. A cleaning business collecting phone numbers should account for extensions and international formats where relevant rather than assuming every visitor enters the same pattern. An input mask is separate from validation, which determines whether a value meets the actual requirements. Clear instructions and flexible input often matter more than decorative formatting.
