A hashtag is a word or phrase preceded by the # symbol that platforms may use to label or connect posts around a topic. A home repair business might use a relevant topic tag to describe a post about cabinet maintenance, but hashtags are not a substitute for a clear caption or useful content. Search, recommendation, and hashtag behavior varies among platforms and can change over time. Adding many loosely related tags does not make a post more informative and may distract readers. Choose tags that accurately describe the content and audience, follow current platform guidance, and evaluate results rather than assuming a particular tag will create visibility.
