Google Trends
Google Trends is a Google tool for exploring relative search interest across terms, places, and periods using sampled and normalized search data.
Google Trends helps users investigate how interest in search topics or queries changes across time and geography. The familiar web interface generally scales results from 0 to 100 within the comparison being viewed. A value of 100 represents the peak relative interest in that selection; it is not the number of searches. The data are sampled and normalized, so comparing two screenshots with different settings can produce misleading conclusions.
For a local HVAC company, Trends can help explore whether searches about air conditioning rise during warm months in its region. The marketer should select an appropriate region and period, review related queries carefully, and compare findings with actual call demand, Search Console data, or advertising tools. A low number may reflect limited measurable interest rather than zero searches.
The tool is useful for framing hypotheses about seasonal content and consumer language, not proving purchase intent or forecast revenue. Its web charts differ from paid keyword research platforms that estimate search volumes. Google has also described a separate Trends API alpha with scaling behavior distinct from the web interface; avoid assuming the two outputs use identical numbers. The term is specifically about Google's trend exploration tool, not a general analytics dashboard or search-ranking report.
