Google Privacy Sandbox
Google Privacy Sandbox is an initiative that developed privacy-related web and Android technologies, several of which have since been discontinued or scheduled for removal.
Privacy Sandbox is best understood as an evolving technology initiative, not as one browser setting or a universal replacement for third-party cookies. It included proposals for advertising measurement, audience selection, identity and cross-site data handling. The status of those proposals matters because a feature described as available in an older marketing article may no longer be supported.
Google's August 2026 feature-status update distinguishes technologies that continue to receive support from those being deprecated and removed. Chrome's Topics, Protected Audience, Attribution Reporting, Shared Storage and several related advertising APIs are in the removal group; technologies such as CHIPS and FedCM are listed among continued support. Android proposals also have different statuses. These distinctions should guide any integration or product recommendation.
A website owner should inventory actual scripts and dependencies rather than assume Privacy Sandbox provides an automatic compliance solution. Browser support, consent requirements, server-side processing and first-party measurement need separate evaluation. Privacy Sandbox never meant that a business could ignore privacy notices or applicable data-protection rules.
