GDPR Compliance
GDPR compliance means meeting the applicable requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation when an organization processes personal data within its scope.
The GDPR applies to processing carried out in the context of an establishment in the EU and can also apply to organizations outside the EU when they offer goods or services to people in the EU or monitor their behavior there. Simply having visitors from Europe does not automatically settle every territorial-scope question. Personal data can include information that identifies a person directly or indirectly.
Organizations within scope need an appropriate lawful basis for processing, transparent notices, suitable security and retention practices, and ways to respect applicable individual rights. Consent is one possible lawful basis, not a universal requirement for every processing activity. Some duties depend on the organization's role, risk and circumstances, so a generic website checklist cannot certify compliance.
A website's privacy policy or cookie banner alone does not establish GDPR compliance. Assess what data is collected, why it is used, who receives it and whether international transfers or processors are involved. This definition is educational, not legal advice; material implementation choices should be reviewed against the applicable law and guidance.
