GA4 Measurement Protocol

GA4 Measurement Protocol is a server-to-server interface for sending event data to Google Analytics 4 using HTTPS requests.

The Google Analytics 4 Measurement Protocol allows a system outside the visitor's browser to submit GA4 events over HTTPS. A business might use it to supplement website events with qualifying events from an appointment system or customer database, such as a completed service request or a confirmed purchase.

For web streams, event requests use the appropriate stream identifiers and a Measurement Protocol API secret. Google documents a JSON event payload, limits on names and parameters, and validation tools. Receiving a successful HTTP response does not by itself prove that a malformed event was accepted into reports. Implementers should validate payloads and confirm that expected events appear in Analytics.

Measurement Protocol complements browser or app instrumentation; it is not a substitute for configuring identity, consent and appropriate collection. It also cannot repair unreliable attribution automatically. Teams should define what event they are sending, where its identifiers originate, which data may lawfully be shared, and how duplicates will be avoided.
