Form Abandonment

Form abandonment occurs when someone begins a form but leaves before successfully submitting it.

Form abandonment occurs when someone begins a form but leaves before successfully submitting it. A quote form that asks for unnecessary details, has confusing error messages, or fails on a phone may discourage a potential customer. Measuring abandonment requires an appropriate tracking setup; simply seeing fewer submissions does not establish how many visitors started the form. Some people also leave because they decide the service is not a fit. Reviewing field requirements, mobile behavior, clarity, and privacy explanations is often more useful than assuming every abandoned form is lost revenue. Unlike a conversion funnel, which covers several steps in a customer journey, form abandonment focuses on an unfinished interaction with a specific form.
