Focus Indicator
A focus indicator is a visible cue showing which interactive element currently has keyboard focus.
A focus indicator is a visible cue showing which interactive element currently has keyboard focus. It might appear as an outline around a button or a clearly highlighted form field. When someone tabs through a cleaning company's quote request page, the indicator lets them know where the next keystroke will act. Removing it solely to achieve a minimalist design can make navigation confusing or unusable. Indicators need to remain distinguishable against surrounding colors and should not be obscured by sticky headers or overlays. Focus indicators support keyboard navigation but are only one part of accessible interaction design; correct focus order and usable controls matter too.
