File Upload Progress Indicator
A file upload progress indicator communicates transfer status and, when measurable, the progress of an uploaded file.
A file upload progress indicator tells a website visitor whether an attached file, such as a photo for a service quote, is being transferred or processed. When progress can be measured, it may present a percentage; when the duration is unknown, an indeterminate busy state is more accurate than an invented number. For accessibility, the native HTML progress element is often preferable. A custom ARIA progressbar needs a clear accessible name and, for measurable progress, an updated aria-valuenow within its range; indeterminate progress should omit aria-valuenow. Status and error messaging should also distinguish uploading from server-side processing and confirm when the attachment is actually accepted. A progress bar cannot prove that a file is safe, supported, or successfully attached to an enquiry. Clear size guidance, retry handling, and a final submission confirmation help users avoid repeated or lost uploads.
