FAQ Schema Markup
FAQ schema markup is structured data using the FAQPage vocabulary to describe a page’s questions and answers for machines that process structured information.
FAQPage structured data associates a question with its answer using Schema.org properties. It can describe genuinely visible Q&A content in a machine-readable format, provided the marked-up information matches the page and follows the consuming platform's rules. The markup does not, by itself, improve the accuracy of the answers or replace a useful FAQ page.
An important 2026 update changes how this concept should be taught. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in Search starting May 7, 2026 and removed its FAQ rich-result documentation in June. Older advice promising expanded Google search snippets from adding FAQ schema is therefore outdated. Other systems may still consume schema vocabulary for their own purposes, but implementation should be justified by an actual integration or content model, not a guaranteed Google display enhancement.
This term differs from structured data generally because it explains a specific question-and-answer content type. If the site already defines structured data, the separate page should focus on the FAQPage vocabulary and its historical search feature lifecycle. Never invent FAQs solely to manufacture markup.
