Faceted Navigation (SEO)

Faceted navigation lets visitors narrow a collection by selecting filters such as service type, location, price range, or other attributes.

Faceted navigation lets visitors narrow a collection by selecting filters such as service type, location, price range, or other attributes. It is common on large directories and catalogs, though less common on a small contractor website. The SEO challenge is that filter combinations may generate many URLs containing mostly overlapping material. If a site exposes thousands of low-value variations, search crawlers can spend time on pages that offer little new information. Faceted navigation is different from ordinary website navigation and from a simple search filter control. Indexing rules, canonical handling, and internal linking should follow the value of each filtered page rather than a blanket assumption.
