Exclusive vs. Shared Leads
Exclusive leads are offered under a one-buyer arrangement; shared leads may be distributed to multiple buyers, according to the lead provider’s contract.
Exclusive and shared leads describe how an enquiry is distributed, not whether the contact is real or ready to purchase. An exclusive lead is marketed or contracted for one buyer during the defined exclusivity period. A shared lead can be offered to more than one provider. Neither label alone establishes that a person consented to contact, that the buyer will win the job, or that the enquiry is qualified.
When comparing offers, read the actual distribution terms: whether exclusivity is permanent or time-limited, how many competing buyers may receive a shared enquiry, whether repeat leads are resold, and how disputes or credits work. Also evaluate contact freshness, coverage area, service intent, and the customer’s stated permission to be contacted. A cheaper shared lead may produce an expensive booked appointment if many providers compete to reach the person first.
Judge both models on cost per verified opportunity and cost per completed sale, not cost per lead alone. Review any relevant data-sharing disclosures and contact rules independently.
