Email Sequence

An email sequence is a planned series of related email messages sent to a contact based on a schedule, event or stage in a relationship.

An email sequence has a purpose across multiple messages rather than relying on one broadcast. A company might welcome a new subscriber, explain its service process, follow up on an estimate request or help a customer prepare for an appointment. Each message should serve a distinct step, with timing and exits that respect the recipient's situation.

A useful sequence maps the entry event, intended audience, content order, delays and stop conditions. Someone who has already booked a job should not continue receiving “please book” reminders. Measure qualified replies, bookings, unsubscribes and complaints alongside open or click indicators. Privacy and email marketing rules depend on message type and jurisdiction; do not assume every operational notice is marketing or that consent requirements are identical worldwide.

Email sequence differs from email automation, which is the technology executing conditions and sends, and from an email newsletter, which is usually a recurring editorial publication. A sequence can be sent manually; its defining feature is the intentional progression of messages, not a particular software vendor.
