Email Opt-In

An email opt-in is an action through which a person agrees to receive certain messages, often by checking an unchecked box or submitting a clearly labeled signup form.

An email opt-in is a person's affirmative choice to receive a defined category of messages, such as a service company's promotional newsletter. A clearly labeled signup form or an optional unchecked checkbox can provide a useful record of that choice. Asking for a repair estimate should not silently enroll a homeowner in unrelated marketing. Consent expectations and legal requirements depend on location, message type, and service provider rules: the U.S. federal CAN-SPAM Act generally does not impose a universal advance opt-in requirement for commercial email, but it does require compliant identification, an opt-out mechanism, and prompt honoring of unsubscribe requests. Other applicable privacy laws or platform policies can impose stricter consent rules. Keep marketing signup records and service-request communications separate, and explain the kinds of messages subscribers will receive. Opt-in describes joining a list; opting out describes leaving it.
