DNS TXT Record

A DNS TXT record stores text associated with a domain name in the Domain Name System.

A DNS TXT record stores text associated with a domain name in the Domain Name System. Organizations use TXT records for several purposes, including domain ownership verification and publishing parts of email authentication configurations. A cleaning company's website manager may be asked to add a TXT record when connecting an analytics service or email provider. The record's text must be entered exactly as instructed, but the domain registrar and DNS host are not necessarily the same company. TXT records do not automatically send email or direct web traffic. Specific formats such as SPF use TXT records for defined purposes, while DKIM and DMARC can also rely on DNS-published information.
