DNS MX Record

A DNS MX record tells email systems which mail servers are designated to receive messages for a domain.

A DNS MX record tells email systems which mail servers are designated to receive messages for a domain. If a local contractor uses an address like hello@example.com, the domain's MX configuration helps route incoming mail to the correct provider. MX records do not determine where the website itself is hosted; web hosting and email hosting can use different services. They are also distinct from SPF records, which help describe authorized email senders. Incorrect MX changes can interrupt new messages, so confirm the receiving provider's instructions before editing DNS. DNS changes may take time to be reflected across resolvers, and testing should cover real incoming mail.
