Direct Traffic

Direct traffic is the analytics category used when a visit has no identifiable referring source under the system's attribution rules.

Direct traffic is the analytics category used when a visit has no identifiable referring source under the system's attribution rules. Some direct visits come from people typing an address or using a bookmark, but others may come from links in documents, messages, or apps that do not pass usable referral information. That means direct traffic should not be interpreted as a precise count of people who already know the business by name. A lawn care company's direct traffic may also reflect returning customers opening saved links. Campaign tagging can improve attribution for links a business controls, but it cannot explain every unattributed visit.
