Content Brief

A content brief is a planning document that tells a writer what a page needs to accomplish.

A content brief is a planning document that tells a writer what a page needs to accomplish. It usually identifies the intended reader, the question or problem being addressed, essential facts, content sections, and the desired next step. For a pressure-washing service page, the brief could specify which surfaces are cleaned, important exclusions, safety language, and the information customers need to request an estimate. It should also identify claims that require confirmation. A brief is not the finished copy, and it should not become a rigid template that makes every page sound the same. Its purpose is to prevent missing information and unnecessary rewrites.
