Consent Checkbox

A consent checkbox lets someone indicate agreement to a clearly described action or use of information.

A consent checkbox lets someone indicate agreement to a clearly described action or use of information. It may appear near a newsletter signup or another form where a specific permission is required. A cleaning company's estimate request should distinguish the information necessary to respond from an optional choice to receive promotional emails. Checkbox wording needs to be understandable, and consent must be handled according to the applicable rules for the activity and location. A preselected box, vague combined permission, or hidden explanation can undermine a meaningful choice in some contexts. Consent checkboxes are not interchangeable with privacy policies, and adding one does not automatically satisfy every privacy or marketing requirement.
