Competitive Positioning
Competitive positioning is the strategic choice of how a business aims to stand apart from relevant alternatives in customers' minds.
Competitive positioning is the strategic choice of how a business aims to stand apart from relevant alternatives in customers' minds. A landscaping company might focus on recurring residential maintenance rather than large installation projects, provided that distinction reflects its real capabilities. Positioning considers who the business serves, the problem it solves, and what competitors already claim. It guides decisions about offerings and messaging but is not simply a catchy tagline. A value proposition translates part of that position into a customer-facing benefit. Effective positioning makes differences clear and defensible; it should not depend on unsupported statements that the business is the best or cheapest.
